Specimen Collection & Handling
Specimen Collection Supplies
Our laboratory personnel follow strict guidelines for the proper collection and handling of your blood specimens. To some patients phlebotomy is not a very pleasant experience. Our staff is aware of this and will make every effort to assure your comfort both during and after the phlebotomy process. One of the most important factors regarding laboratory tests and/or procedures are proper patient identification and sample identification. We will always be very careful to properly identify our patients and their specimens. We always use two forms for identification of patients. That is why your birth date is asked for over and over again. Once your specimen is drawn, the tubes are labeled. Most of the time we will use a preprinted label with your name, and a special accession number that uniquely identifies that specimen in our lab.
